You want to swim with dolphins in wild ocean – not in pool? Karibu Kizimkazi – the village in very south of Zanzibar.

This is where 200 dolphins live every day. We don’t chase them with 20 boats like in north. We wake early, 2 boats only, we respect them. And after dolphins, I show you oldest mosque in East Africa (1107!), old village, and we eat at my family.

This is not tourist Kizimkazi. This is my home.

FULL PROGRAM – YOUR 5:30 AM TO 2:00 PM HALF-DAY (Yes, early! Dolphins wake early)

We have 2 options – you choose:

OPTION 1 – EARLY DOLPHIN SWIM (BEST – 95% success) – 5:30 AM start
OPTION 2 – LATE DOLPHIN TRIP (Relaxed) – 8:30 AM start – 70% success

I recommend Option 1 – you see more, less boats.

5:30 AM – Pickup From Your Hotel (Paje/Jambiani/Stone Town)
Early! I pick you with private car. Drive to Kizimkazi Mkunguni fishing village – 1 hour from Paje, 1.5 hour from Stone Town. We drive while stars still there. I bring Zanzibar coffee and mandazi.

If you sleep in Nungwi, we start 4:30AM – far, but worth it.

6:30 AM – Fishing Village & Boat
We arrive at Kizimkazi beach – small fishing village, no resorts, just dhow boats and fishermen. You see fishermen returning with night catch.

We take small local fishing boat – 6 people max, not big tourist boat. My captain Ali – fisherman 25 years, he knows dolphins by name. We have life jackets, snorkel.

6:45 AM – 9:00 AM – DOLPHINS! Swim With Wild Dolphins

We go 10 min out – deep blue water.

• Bottlenose & Spinner Dolphins: 50-200 dolphins live here. They jump, spin, play with baby dolphins!
• How we do it ethically: We DON’T chase. We wait. We go near slowly, engine off. If dolphins want to play, they come. You slip in water quietly, snorkel, watch them under water – you hear them click! So close – 3-5 meters.
• Swim, not touch: Wild animals – we don’t touch, we respect. But they swim around you – magic!
• Success: Early morning 95% we find them, late morning 70%. Sometimes 10 dolphins, sometimes 100! I can’t promise – they are wild, not in aquarium – but my captain is best, we find.

We stay 1.5-2 hours – dolphin watching + swimming. If you lucky, you see whales July-Sept!

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM – KIZIMKAZI VILLAGE TOUR – Real South Life

We go back to village – now village wakes up.

• Oldest Mosque in East Africa – 1107! Kizimkazi Dimbani Mosque – 900 years old! Coral stones, no cement, with old Kufic writings. My grandfather was Imam here. You see history older than Stone Town.
• Village Walk: Women making coconut rope, kids making toys from palm, old houses from coral – I show you my family house.
• Natural wells & Baobab trees: 500-year-old baobabs!

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM – BEACH TIME & BREAKFAST / LUNCH

We go to hidden Kizimkazi beach – white sand, turquoise, ZERO tourists! Only local fishermen.

• Breakfast: My mama makes Mandazi, samosa, fresh fruit, coffee – at her house – $5 optional but so good!
• Swim: You can swim – water calm, clear. Or visit Kizimkazi Coral Lagoon – secret lagoon for snorkeling.
• Turtle? Sometimes green turtles here.

11:30 AM – Optional Add: Pungume Sandbank or Kuza Cave on way back

Most guests add:

• Kuza Cave: On way back to Paje – fresh water cave swim – $10 extra entrance
• Pungume Sandbank: Sandbank in middle of ocean – BBQ lunch – $20 extra

12:00 PM – Drive Back to Hotel – Arrive 1:30-2PM
Back for lunch and nap – you woke early!

DETAILS YOU ALWAYS ASK ME:

• Will I 100% see dolphins? No – wild animals, I cannot control. But early morning 95% yes, we see. Late morning 70%. In 6 years, only 5 times we missed. If we miss, I take you again next day FREE.
• Is it ethical? YES – we are ethical. No chasing, no feeding, no touching, engine off, small boat, max 2 boats near dolphins. Big companies in north chase with 10 boats – we DON’T. We respect. Government rules.
• Can kids come? Yes – 5+ can swim with dolphins (with life jacket). Under 5 can watch from boat.
• Do I need to be good swimmer? No – you float with life jacket, watch from boat too. Water calm, warm. Snorkel easy.
• What time best? 5:30AM – dolphins feeding, less boats, more active, light beautiful. 8:30AM is more sleep but more boats and sun hot.
• Is it safe? Yes – boat is stable, captain expert, dolphins friendly – they never attack. Water 5-10m deep.
• What to bring? Swimsuit under clothes, towel, sunscreen, hat, cash, waterproof phone case.
• Can I touch dolphins? No – wild, illegal to touch. But they swim 3m from you – you feel their energy.
